You will be supported to stretch your comfort zone – Whether you are nervous about walking four hours or doing your first multi-day hike or just want a supportive space to take time out – we will support you to achieve your goals effortlessly.
You can connect with nature – A growing number of studies suggest that spending time in green spaces can rejuvenate the mental resources that man-made environments deplete. Nature grounds us, increases our wellbeing and gives us the space we need to recharge and be inspired. We love facilitating that process.
You will learn something new – Whether you are new to hiking, want to learn about the New Zealand environment, Waiheke Island and the Hauraki Gulf, or want to explore other outdoor activities and enjoy learning new things – we love helping you to have fantastic new experiences and to be curious and open learners.
We are passionate about our environment and committed to caring for it – We love our natural landscapes and our flora and fauna. We’ll demonstrate how you can contribute to local conservation efforts, either here or close to your home.

When I set out on a seven-day hike with Gabrielle, I didn’t know that I could walk that far, carrying that much food. But quickly I was put at ease. Gabrielle let me move at my own pace, and gave me little tips which made the walking flow.
Soon I had forgotten that tramping might be a struggle – instead my body found its own rhythm and my mind was freer than ever, simply observing and enjoying the huge, spectacular, ever-changing land. Gabrielle taught me to cross rivers safely too.
We had quiet times and uproarious laughter, stories by firelight, and some very fine midday dozing in beautiful lunch spots. Walking with Gabrielle was huge fun and it has expanded my comfort zone forever. I’m free to roam!
Beautiful, beautiful Waiheke. I thoroughly enjoyed my walk with Walking By Nature (with Gabrielle) recently. Despite Oneroa looking like it was bursting at the seams, we did not see a soul on our walk through the trees and along a coastal path.
Great to walk with a local resident and find out some of the hidden gems along the way. Thank you and sorry I can’t make Great Barrier. That sounds like a wonderful trip.
Walking by Nature was started in 2015 by Gabrielle Young with the philosophy of the best way to experience ourselves and our environment is to get out in nature, unplug and connect.
