Waiheke Island Art Walk (5 hours)

Waiheke Island has been known as an island that supports a lively creative community for many years now and has a wonderful range of artists who make their home here. On the Waiheke Island Art Walk you’ll experience the best of what Waiheke has to offer – visiting galleries, sculpture parks, artist studios and lunching at a spectacular property where one of the island’s many artists lives and works.

Our Art Walk takes approximately five hours, and is done at a very leisurely pace so you can enjoy both the art and the scenery around you. By being surrounded by such creativity and the beauty of nature, you will come away feeling inspired by what you have seen, the artists you have met and the beauty and views you have enjoyed while wandering through bush tracks and local roads.

  • Starts and finishes at the Waiheke Community Art Gallery, Ocean View Road, Oneroa
  • Start: 10 am. Finish: 3 pm

Enriching and Stimulating

We enjoyed the Art Walk with Michael, who is a wonderful host. He introduced us to the artists, who were very happy to chat about their work and creative process. It was a very stimulating day. Lunch at Gabriella's was delicious and wonderfully scenic. We are good walkers so we didn't struggle with the walk, but participants should be ready to walk around 13,000 steps, including some uphills (although the inclines were gentle, not strenuous). The views were magnificent and we would highly recommend this unique experience.

Beautiful experience. Highly recommend it

Gabrielle, our private guide, is a lovely woman who introduce my husband and I to some local interesting artists -painters, sculptors, glass workers, goldsmith, shoemaker, etc. No matter the bad weather we share a gorgeous day with all this people as well as enjoying the landscape and a nice winery and a natural reserve as well. Highly recommend this tour. Thanks Gabrielle!

Most enjoyable day on Waiheke Island!

We wanted to see the island from the perspective of the creative artists that live there and whose work is inspired by its natural beauty. Walking by Nature and especially our young local guide, Louis, delivered. We loved the mix of public and private art, sculpture, craft, and jewelry. The host artists were most gracious in showing us their studio space and work. It was a hot day and two of the artists even offered to drive us to the next stop. Although we purchased a few items, we didn't feel pressured to buy anywhere and photography was allowed (we asked at each studio). The time just flew by and finished up with a lovely coastal/bush walk back to our starting point at the public gallery. We definitely saw more, than we might have on our own. We were expected at each studio and Louis gave a great explanation of the other areas we visited. It was an easy 35 minute ferry ride from Auckland to join the tour. We recommend this tour to anyone looking for something other than the typical winery/tasting tour of Waiheke.
